February is Black History Month.  This month-long celebration recognizes the significant contributions African Americans have made throughout U.S. and world history.  The team at Adventure Credit Union has complied this list of ideas to get you started with celebrating black history in February and throughout 2023.

• Feb. 3rd: Black History 101 Exhibits with Dr. El-Hakim at the Grand Rapids Public Library.
• Feb. 4^th: Rosa Parks’ Birthday – Black History Walking Tour presented by Downtown Grand Rapids, Inc.
• Feb. 4^th: Black History trivia contest at Hackley Library in Muskegon.
• Feb. 5^th: Black Man documentary premiere at Frauenthal Center in Muskegon.
• Feb. 6^th: BHM Open Mic Poetry Night at Hackley Library in Muskegon.
• Feb. 6^th – 10^th: Black History Month Storytimes.  Various locations of the Grand Rapids Public Library.
• Feb. 7^th: Summer of Soul (presented by WYCE) at the Wealthy Theater.
• Feb. 11^th: BHM Sweet soul food dessert contest at Hackley Library in Muskegon.
• Feb. 11^th: Sojourner Truth’s life history, works, and words at the Battle Creek Regional History Museum.
• Feb. 14^th: Cultural Connections Cooking Class at the Grand Rapids Public Library.
• Feb. 16^th: The Civil Rights Road Trip at the Holland Museum.
• Feb. 16^th: Music in the Stacks: Yolonda Lavender at the Grand Rapids Public Library.
• Feb. 18^th: Youth Services BHM Craft Day at Hackley Library in Muskegon.
• Feb. 21^st: Flavors of February!  A Black History Celebration at the Willard Library in Battle Creek.
• Feb. 21^st: Reifying Black Geographies – the tropical performances of Maya Angelou and Josephine Baker – a virtual event presented by the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
• Feb. 23^rd: Author Talk with Victoria Christopher Murray at Grand Rapids Public Library.
• Feb. 28^th: Black Violin at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts in East Lansing.
