Bringing to Light Issues That Matter

You can get involved

Because credit unions, like Adventure, are federally and state regulated, it is important that we remain vigilant on impending regulation and legislation that could positively or negatively impact our members.

Maintaining credit unions' tax-exempt status is a major campaign being led by our national trade group, America's Credit Unions. The "Don't Tax My Credit Union" organization is asking all credit union members to petition Congress to preserve the federal income tax exemption that credit unions enjoy as not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives.

Keep in mind, credit unions DO pay taxes, such as property tax, sales tax, and payroll tax. Banking associations are lobbying heavily to eliminate the federal income tax exemption for credit unions. Credit unions have been exempt from federal income tax since our inception.

You can help by sharing this information with others and speaking to your representatives in Congress. Thank you for your membership and support of credit unions.

Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL)

As our state trade association, the Michigan Credit Union League advocates on our behalf with state and federal lawmakers in Lansing and Washington, D.C.. MCUL representatives frequently cooperate with industry volunteers to review proposed legislation, identifying our official position, and advocating for or against the proposals as necessary.

MCUL provides opportunities for credit union management, staff and volunteers to interact with lawmakers and regulators, both in events throughout Michigan and in Washington D.C. These events are extremely important in providing access to industry decision-makers, further strengthening the MCUL’s voice as issues are considered. The legislative and regulatory proposals engaged by the MCUL directly impact Michigan credit unions and the environment in which they operate.

America's Credit Unions

American's Credit Unions is our industry's largest national trade association. The not-for-profit trade group is governed by volunteer directors who are elected by their credit union peers from across the nation.

America's Credit Unions partners with state associations and credit unions to:

  • Represent the interests of credit unions before the U.S. government, including Congress and federal regulatory agencies
  • Organize and focus the political efforts of credit unions
  • Act as the voice of the credit union movement before the public (through the press and other media)
  • Provide education and training resources for the development of credit union staff and volunteers
  • Provide various forums for credit unions to meet and share ideas and views
  • Provide access to cooperative products and services for credit unions

Adventure Credit Union is a full-service credit union in Michigan with branches in the Greater Grand Rapids and Lansing areas. All those who live, work, worship or attend school in the State of Michigan are eligible to join.
