Quick Start Guide

My $ Snapshot allows you to tag transactions to categorize your spending.  You can then create budgets to monitor your spending in each of these categories.  Tagging your transactions and setting budgets will help you understand how you spend your money, and help you make smarter choices in the future.

Use the steps below to set a monthly budget:

Step 1. Click "add budget" on the budgets tab

Step 2. Select which "tags" you want to track with your budget.  For example "Entertainment."

Step 3. Edit the name of your budget, and set a dollar amount.

Step 4. Decide whether or not to set up an alert

Step 5. Choose which accounts you want to monitor for transaction tags

Use My $ Snapshot to create savings goals, like saving for a vacation outside of Grand Rapids or Lansing, Michigan, or a debt reduction goal, like paying off a high rate credit card. The goals tool asks for a date by which you want to accomplish the goal and keeps track of your progress automatically.

How to set goals for your finances:

Step 1: Select "Add Goal" on the goal dashboard.

Step 2: Select your desired pay off or savings goal.

Step 3: Fill in the required information.

Step 4: Click the "Save" button to complete the process of adding a new goal.

Keep in mind, your Goal Summary at the bottom of the page will update your completion date and the amount needed per month according to your preferences in the form.

Goals will automatically update your progress and will reflect your day-to-day account balances.

The cash flow calendar brings your budget to life through an interactive calendar. With the calendar, you can see how much money you have available to pay bills and other expenses day by day...allowing you to make informed choices on when to schedule bills and other spending.
Build wealth and watch it grow through the Net Worth tool.  No need to keep manually updating a spreadsheet.  My $ Snapshot helps you quickly add up all your assets (you can even add your home and vehicles) and debts to show you an up-to-date estimate of your net worth.

Syncing external accounts allows you to see your complete financial picture in one place.  You may wish to sync accounts such as: banks, credit unions, credit cards, student loans, mortgages, retirement savings, investments, and more.

How to sync an account:

Step 1: Navigate to Accounts, and click the plus sign to "Add Linked Account. "

Step 2: Select an institution from the list or use the search feature to find your institution.

Step 3: Enter the required information and select "Connect. "

That's it!  Repeat these steps for each account that you'd like to sync with My $ Snapshot.


The majority of the time, My $ Snapshot will automatically assign a tag to your transactions.  However, it is often necessary to edit the tags that have been assigned to properly categorize your spending.  This is particularly important when using budgets.

You may also want to tag a transaction that was not auto generated, or split a single transaction so that multiple tags can be used.  We have created a PDF guide to show you how all of this is done.
