Essay Topic & Scholarship Application

The scholarship application window is now closed!  Thank you to everyone who entered.  Winners will be contacted on/around May 1st.


The Adventure Scholarship is now open to anyone who is pursuing higher education or formal career training.  This includes but is not limited to:

  • Graduating high school seniors
  • Current college students
  • Trade school students
  • Adults returning to school
  • Adults pursuing formal career training

Eligibility Requirement: Applicant must be a member of Adventure Credit Union or related to a current member that established at least 1 year prior to application submission.

Below is the topic for our 2024 Adventure Scholarship essay.  please answer the following two questions:

Part one (200 to 300 words): "Tell us about your plans for continued education.  What motivated you to pursue this field of study or career path?"

Part two (600 to 700 words): "When borrowing money or "using credit," you are taking on debt.  As such, it is important to use credit responsibly.  What's the difference between good debt and bad debt?  When does it make sense to take on new debt?  How will debt impact your finances in the future?"

  • The 2024 Adventure Scholarship essay topic consists of two parts:
    • Part one: Tell us about your plans for continued education.  What motivated you to pursue this field of study or career path? (200 to 300 words)
    • Part two: "When borrowing money or "using credit", you are taking on debt.  As such, it is important to use credit responsible.  What's the difference between good debt and bad debt?  When does it make sense to take on new debt?  How will debt impact your finances in the future?" (600 to 700 words)
  • Please answer part one of the essay in 200 to 300 words.
  • Please answer part two of the essay in 600 to 700 words.  
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
  • The scholarship committee’s principal determining factor in selecting award recipients is the applicant’s passion for the topic.
  • The committee will use the following criteria in judging responses to the topic: comprehension of subject, organization, language use, originality, clarity, spelling and grammar. Scholarship recipients will be selected without regard to their race, religion or gender.
  • Entry deadline is March 31, 2024. Scholarship entry is available online only.
  • Applicant must be pursuing continued education in a paid program
  • Applicant must be a member in Grand Rapids, Lansing and other parts of Michigan or be related to a member of Adventure Credit Union with membership affiliation of at least one year prior to application
  • Entry is by essay that explains the full meaning of the chosen topic
  • Please answer part one of the essay in 200 to 300 words.
  • Please answer part two of the essay in 600 to 700 words. 
  • Scholarship entry is available online only
  • Five winners will be awarded $1,000 scholarships
  • The amount of the scholarship award will be paid to the recipient to provide financial assistance in their pursuit of continued education.
  • Proof of enrollment in a paid educational / career training program may be required.
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
