GRAND RAPIDS, MI: The Michigan Credit Union League recently selected Adventure Credit Union as the 1st place winner of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award among Michigan credit unions who manage $250 million to $1 billion in assets.

The award named after Dora Maxwell, a pioneer of the credit union movement, is given annually to credit unions who excel in strengthening their communities through volunteerism, donations, and other means.

This fall, submissions from all 50 state-level award winners were judged again by CUNA, the Credit Union National Association.  In the national competition, Adventure Credit Union was selected as the 2nd place Dora Maxwell award winner for credit unions in its asset category.

These two awards are recognition for Adventure’s community service work completed in Grand Rapids and Lansing between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023.  During this timeframe, the credit union completed 55 volunteer events for a total of 867 hours and donated over $25,000.  The focus of their efforts was on the holistic health of the community, encompassing physical, mental/emotional, and financial health.  To execute their award winning project, Adventure partnered with Ele’s Place Capital Region, Ele’s Place West Michigan, Friends of Grand Rapids’ Parks, Greater Lansing Food Bank, Kids’ Food Basket, and North Kent Connect.

Evan Kingsbury, one of the coordinators of the credit union’s community service project said: “We are honored to receive the Dora Maxwell awards.  Volunteerism and giving back in the community is a big part of who we are, and it sets us apart from our competitors.  We’re local.  We’re different.  We care.”
