Essay Topic & College Scholarship Application

The 2023 application period is now closed

Below is the topic for our 2023 Dollars for Scholars Scholarship essay.  In 800 to 1,000 words, please answer the following questions:

"Adventure Credit Union loves to help out in the community.  We want to know- what needs do you see in your community? How can people address those needs by budgeting their time (i.e., volunteering) and money (i.e., donations)? What would the benefit be to the community, if people took these actions?  How can you get more people in the community involved?"

  • Applicant must be a high school senior bound for college or a vocational school
  • Applicant must be a member in Grand Rapids, Lansing and other parts of Michigan or be related to a member of Adventure Credit Union with membership affiliation of at least one year prior to application
  • Entry is by essay that explains the full meaning of the chosen topic
  • Essays must be between 800-1000 words
  • Scholarship entry is available online only
  • Two winners will be chosen and scholarships of (1) $2,500 and (1) $500 will be awarded.
  • The amount of the scholarship award will be paid to the recipient to provide financial assistance in their pursuit of an undergraduate degree at an accredited trade school, college, or university.
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
  • The 2023 Dollars for Scholars Scholarship essay topic is: "Adventure Credit Union loves to help out in the community.  We want to know- what needs do you see in your community? What would the benefit be to the community, if people took these actions?  How can you get more people in the community involved?"
  • Essays must be between 800-1000 words
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
  • The scholarship committee’s principal determining factor in selecting award recipients is the applicant’s passion for the topic.
  • The committee will use the following criteria in judging responses to the topic: comprehension of subject, organization, language use, originality, clarity, spelling and grammar. Scholarship recipients will be selected without regard to their race, religion or gender.
  • Entry deadline for 2023 is March 31, 2023. Scholarship entry is available online only.
