Essay Topic & Scholarship Application

A credit score is sort of like a GPA for your finances.  Your score, be it high or low, indicates how responsible you are with borrowing money and paying your bills on time.  In 500 to 1,000 words, please answer the following questions:

"Why is having good credit important for your future? What steps can you take as a young adult to establish and build your credit?"


  • Applicant must be a high school senior bound for college or a vocational school
  • Applicant must be a member or be related to a member of Adventure Credit Union with membership affiliation of at least one year prior to application
  • Entry is by essay that explains the full meaning of the chosen topic
  • Essays must be between 500-1000 words
  • Scholarship entry is available online only
  • Four winners will be chosen and scholarships of (2) $1,000 and (2) $500 will be awarded.
  • The amount of the scholarship award will be paid to the recipient to provide financial assistance in their pursuit of an undergraduate degree at an accredited trade school, college, or university.
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
  • The 2020 Dollars for Scholars Scholarship essay topic is: "Why is having good credit important for your future?  What steps can you take as a young adult to establish and build credit?"
  • Essays must be between 500-1000 words
  • Winners will be selected by an independent committee.
  • The scholarship committee’s principal determining factor in selecting award recipients is the applicant’s passion for the topic.
  • The committee will use the following criteria in judging responses to the topic: comprehension of subject, organization, language use, originality, clarity, spelling and grammar. Scholarship recipients will be selected without regard to their race, religion or gender.
  • Entry deadline for 2021 is March 31, 2021. Scholarship entry is available online only.
